Tell me about the 5.2L
Curious as to the general opinion of the reliablity of the 5.2L found in some Dodge Rams...the particular one I'm looking at is in a 2001 Ram. In looking, I had hoped it had the 360, but it does not, thus this post. Any help is appreciated.

My Ram is an '01 5.2.
It now has about 37,000 miles on it and I've no problems except for a front crankshaft seal leak wich the dealer fixed under warranty.
The 5.2 has been around in one form or other since the late 50's and is a proven reliable engine.
I reccomend the 5.2, you can always get a performance chip, dual exhaust, headers etc, if you want to.

My dad had a Grand Cherokee with a 5.2L, it was nice, that car weight a little less, had good acelleration and everything, you get not bad gas mileage, I have a 5.9L in my Ram 1500, I like it but I think it could have more power, but overall I don't mind it, the gas mileage goes down but since the truck is around 3 tons, it needs something to move that. Its your call, drive both a 5.2L and a 5.9L see which you like better, I personally am glad I got the bigger block in my 1998 because I like the power, but its your opinion, thats just my 2 cents,
PS. I also like to be quoted as having "the" biggest block in the school parking lot.

I had the 5.2 in a Jeep Grand that had 200K on it, tore apart the original motor & found no ridge on the cylinder walls which ment it still had a lot of life in it (swapped the motor thinking it was a tired motor but found the problem w/it after the swap... plenum gasket causing excessive oil usage)
