vibration @ 1700rpm
Hello all,
I have a 2004 Quad Cab w/ Hemi motor, 20" wheels. I am getting a noticeable fine vibration that I can feel in the wheel. It comes on at 1600rpm, maxes out at 1750rpm and goes away completely at 1900rpm. It is in any gear. It is not speed related. If I let off the gas and coast at these rpm's it goes away, so it has to have a slight "load" on the motor for it to manifest.
I took it to the dealer and they said they could feel it too but could not figure out what it is. The next day they told me they drove a couple of like trucks and those trucks did it as well, and that this is just something that is inherent in the Hemi motor. I asked to drive the other trucks they said they drove and they allowed it. These trucks did not have the vibration as they said.
Has anyone out there noticed this type of vibration at these rpm's in your Hemi powered trucks

I talked with a lady from the local dodge parts dept. and she told me that they have seen some trucks come in that had driveshafts be a culprit of vibration. Perhaps a unbalanced driveshaft is your problem.
I suspect that it is not in the driveline since it happens at the rpm and not at any particular speed, however I am not a mechanic. Can anyone comment on this?
I am really interested if other Hemi owners do/don't have this issue so I can refute their claim that it is inherent in the Hemi.
I should also add that my truck has only 1000 miles on it.

In my ongoing search to find the cause of this vibration I was feeling all the belt driven parts on the front of the motor today to see if anything seemed out of wack. Everything felt smooth except for the power steering pump. It had a significant amount of vibration to it. Does anyone here know if this is normal on these?
I compared it to the power steering pump on my Ford and Toyota and neither of them had significant vibration. Maybe someone here could check theirs and tell me what you find.
I live a long way from the dealer but will eventually go there to try and compare to another.

I found the vibration problem. The line that comes out of the power steering pump and runs up right along side of the power steering fluid resivoir was vibrating against the resivoir. The vibration was resinating all the way up to the steering wheel. I found it by simply putting my hand on the resivoir and noticing the extreme vibration of the plastic resivoir. I just bent the line away from the resivoir so it doesn't touch it, all vibration gone. Wow, that was simple
