4x4 question
im new with dodge rams, so you'll have to excuse me if this question is moronic, but i've only driven rear wheel drive cars, and just bought my first 4x4 vehicle. i got 4 wheel drive for snow, but was wondering should i only drive under a certain speed with 4wd on, or can it handle going 75 - 80 mph? manual says to stay under 55 mph when attempting to switch to and from, but says nothing about driving speeds during.
75 - 80 is way to fast for 4 wheel drive if the roads require 4 wheel drive you should not be driving over 55 probably not even that fast.
The most important thing to remember is that 4 wheel drive will do nothing but assist you in taking off in a reduced traction situation. It will not do anything to improve your ability to stop.
Many people think because they have a 4 wheel drive vehicle than can put it in 4X4 and drive as they normally do in dry weather. Your driving habits should not change just because you now have fourwheel drive.
Also remember that a fourwheel drive vehicle will handle differently than a regular car due to the different weight and the higher center of gravity.
You should not use 4 wheel drive when the roads are dry it may cause damage to the drivetrain components and cause unnecessary wear.
Please be cautious until you have fully learned how your 4x4 reacts and handles in various situations

I couldn't agree more with Grape Ape! I've been driving in snowy conditions for 30+ years, and it's not about being able to drive faster because you have a 4x4. It's about driving safely, andif you're driving over 55 in questionable conditions, you're driving too fast! Period.Your 4wd will allow you to have more control, but not in stopping. Stay back from the vehicles moving "too slow" and arrive safely..... JustMHO..... Tim
