$26,600 for a 'new' 2004 2500 quad 4x4 slt 'buyback', good deal?
hey guys,
this is my first post here. i am looking at a 2004 ram 2500 quadcab 4x4 slt. this truck has 26 miles on it. being sold at a local dodge dealership (jim cogdill knoxville TN) it has been bought back from the original dealer who refused to take delivery of it. (jarrett & son hatboro PA) it was described as having 'salt damage' it was either caught in a storm while in transport or something. the disclaimer sheet in the window said it had the chrome wheels, chrome bumpers, fuel lines, and exhaust system replaced. because of surface rust. the repair bill was around $5k i am a welder and machinist , i looked at the truck very closely and see no more damage what so ever.
the saleman started at $30k i got him down to $28k before i left, then came back and talked down to $26, 600 which took about an hour. i was sitting in the 'finance room' at 10 pm last night and just decided to research this a little more...
here are my questions for the board. is there any way i can find out how much they have in it? would the factory have offred the first dealership a rebate or deal of some sort so they wouldn't return it? or is it common for a dealer to send a truck back? do you think i could get it for less than 26,600?
i have talked to a dealer in hickory NC and gotten a price of $27,900 brand new no issues, but not all these options...just 5spd auto, tow, maybe some other small things?
what should i do??
i am in no hurry to buy , but i'm sure the 'buyback' won't last long...
thanks, jon

I would go back to the dealership and tell them you will walk out with the car for 25K, I would bet you money they will give it to you for that. If not work em down to at least 25,500 or 26k, I bet you can get it for that. Pretend to be really concerned about the damage that had to be fixed. Let me know what you do!
