04 SLT Quad Cab Ram w/4.7L ~ $20k OTD
I have an opportunity to purchase a new 04 SLT Quad Cab Ram w/ 4.7L for ~ 20k out the door. I have tried to use the search engine to get mileage figures and any other items of interest I could pick up. On my test drive, I noticed very good start off power but somewhat poor kick down power. I guess this is to be expected given this is only a 4.7L pulling a QC. Any rate my biggest concern is the miles per gallon, is it really "that" bad ?. I have seen between 12.5 & 14.5 per gallon, that's kinda crappy !!!
I would use this vehicle as a ~ 95% commuter on the Hwy and occasionally throw some dirt bikes in the back, which the 4.7L seems to be an ideal fit. Any rate, the salesman says it is a 4 speed, but their ad says it's a 5 speed automatic, so is the tow/haul feature that 5th speed by any chance ???
Is this a good deal ??? Anything in particular to watch out for ???
Many Thanks in advance for response.

holy crap! $20K OTD is a sweet deal! I paid $24 OTD for almost the same thing except mine is a HEMI and other extra goodies.
Even w/ my truck I'll average about 14.5-14.8 w/ combined city/hwy driving.

Ya, I guess it is a end of year thing. Gotta compete w/ GM & Ford and all the rebates.
How about the 5 speed automatic, is it really a 4-speed w/ the tow haul feature being the 5th speed ???
Many Thanks !!!

Sounds like a sweet deal! The Hemi will get you just about the same gas mileage. I still haven't broke mine in and I get 12 city and 17 highway.....expected to increase about 2mpg once broken in. And I don't baby it!
Atlantic Blue w/ Grey Interior. Anyone know about the (5) Speed Auto, by any chance ???
Many Thanks !!!

Well, if you want good gas milage don't get a full sized truck. You can expect about 13MPG on average in a 4.7L or HEMI doing mixed driving.
I guess 20K is a pretty good deal, but I got a 04 Q/C Laramie with Leather, HEMI, automatic, power seats/pedals, 20" wheels, Line-X bed liner, etc.. for 28K out the door, so do the math and see what you think.
