Oil Change at dealership???
Ok, I got my '04 Ram, and one of the perks when I bought it was free oil changes for 60,000 miles. I took it in for the first oil change, gave them the coupon and poked around for a while till it was done. The oil cap and manual says to use 5w30, yet they used 10w30. Is there any reason to be concerned? I'm not really worried about the 10w30 doing anything to my truck, I'm sure it'll be fine, I just dont wand Dodge to pull something funny and void my warranty because the wrong oil weight has been used. Any suggestions?
Don't sweat it man, How are they going to void your warranty for putting in the wrong oil when they are the ones that did it? another thing, you have the proof that they are the ones that did it ( should say on the reciept what grade of oil and who the serviceman is that did the work.) If not have the service manager put it on your reciept/and in your service booklet that came with the truck showing when and where the service was done.
I had this same question. I get my oil changed at all sorts of places since I drive so much.. (Vavalene instant oil change, etc.) Apparently Dodge is O.K. with 10W30 in the summer time, but 5W30 is strongly recommended below 32' F.
I don't work for Dodge so I don't know how official that is, but that is the "Dodge service recommendataion" that is going out to all the other places....
my $.02

Check your oil change temp. chart in your owners manual. Most cars/trucks are supposed to use a heavier weight oil due to the outside temps in the summer months.....
The 5w-30 and 10w-30 have the same high temp range, but the low temp. is where the difference is. For summer you'ra probably ok where you are in Ohio. Come winter though, just to be safe, I'd would definitely have that 5w-30 back in my truck.
