Computer Questions - (Trans Swap)
I've got a '97 Ram 2500, 360 (5.9L) gas motor, auto, 4x4, etc... Typical Dodge, the trans took a digger at 78,000 miles. So I'm in the process of getting rid of the junk auto and putting an NV4500 5-speed into it. I've tracked down almost all the parts I need, but have a couple questions I hope some of you can help me with.
Here's the technical question- Does anyone know what I need to do for the fuel injection/computer system to work correctly? From what little I've found so far, it looks like I need a whole new ECU, but I'm wondering if there's a seperate module just for the transmission?
If anyone's interested, I'll post a thread with pics and tips from the swap. With the horrible reputation of the Dodge auto, I'm surprised this isn't a much more common swap. I am having a very hard time coming up with any info for this on the web.
I'll check in here, or you can email me at rctd_eng@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance for any help.

hey Snafu. Have you checked out Advance Adapters. They have kits for engine swaps, I dont know if they would have info on tranny swaps but they might. I know a few people that have gone through them for engine swaps and the kits they sold were very well thought out and had all parts and info required. Including computer swap info.
Yah, I've checked with AA and Novak. They mostly only do Jeeps, with some fullsize stuff. They don't have anything for Dodge unless you're replacing the old Getrag 5-speed with an NV. I think I've got all the mechanical parts I need coming in, I just don't know electronics at all on these things.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Well here is a list to start with, makes some calls and go from there. I believe that "Instant Injection" in Hesperia Ca, builds there own computers, perhaps for your application. It a starting point, let us know what you find.
