Hours on engine? High beams?
Hey guys,
I'm new to DF as I just registered this week. I traded in my 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner TRD for my new love....my 2004 Dodge Ram Hemi SLT!
Anyway, I don't know if it's common knowledge or not, but I found it really interesting that if you put the key in the ignition and turn it to before you crank your engine, then, hold down the odometer button for 6 seconds you get an hour reading of how many miles are on your engine! It's like an airplane or a tractor!?!? What's the purpose of knowing the hours on the engine as opposed to miles on the vehicle?
Lastly, I have the sport Package with my Dodge, and as a result, I have nice fog lamps as well. Not that I need it, but are there high beams on my truck? I know that I can pull back to 'flash' someone, but are there permanent high beams?
Hope those weren't stupid questions!
Later,
Drew

First off, congratulations on the new Ram!
I did know about the "hours" indicator. GMs have had that for five years or so. My guess is the hours somehow get factored into some of the computer functions, but I don't know that for a fact.
You do have high beams, it's just that the you have one bulb for each headlamp, and each bulb has two elements; one for low beam and one for high beam.

Thanks, appreciate the info. Yeh, I know I have high beams on my truck but my real question is: how do I make them stay on? I can only 'flash" them when I pull the blinker lever back and I can't keep them on. Do they not allow me to keep them on b/c I have fog lights as well?
