not sure if this is right but when i had my ford ranger myne did that and it was the throtte position sensor.. and or egr sensor .. not sure maybe it was the IAC sensor.. the idle air control.. damn ford service jsut prentend do the work by replacing all the sensors.. if i remember correctly... not sure if this applies to your 4.7 but its just a thought... your truck still have warranty?? if so let them check it out..

Thanks man I apppreciate it I just dont know if I can trust these guys. I have been told a number of times that there is nothing wrong, and that it is normal for the 4.7 to do this.

did u try taking it to another dealer to see what they had to say? just a thought i know what u mean i hate when dealers or mechanics give u the run around or just plain rip u off. my girlfriend was the one who took the ranger in... and they probably saw her coming.. but the iac sensor is what i belive was the problem in my ranger.

btw .. thats a nice lookin ram you got.. [sm=smiley20.gif] is that the dark slate grey?

greyghost,

I know exactly what you are talking about. My 04 does the same thing. Weird thing is my 02 did not, and they are both 4.7's. Mine goes in next week to have a look see. I'll let you know the results.

Mine does the same thing when it's warmed up, but It doesn't rough idle. I've noticed that all my computer controlled engine cars do that. ???

Thanks guys for the info, There are not any other dealers close by where I am at. I went for a ride yesterday trying to get it to happen and it is really more of a hiccup than a rough idle. it is not like it is stalling out just hiccuping or something. Hard to explain. The really wierd thing is that my wife's Durango does the exact same thing. Hers is a 2001 with the 4.7. I dont feel that it is a seriouse problem, but dont want to end up being one. Both trucks have been doing it since we were living in Alaska and have been doing it since. I was thinking that maybe it is the gas or something like that. I only put 87 octane in her as per the owners manual. The gas around here is 2.39 a gallon, luckily there is a costco gas around here and they only charge 2.23 a gallon. Mid grade is .10 more a gallon and is 91 octane. if I am reading my manual right it recommends no more than 89 octane. Thanks again for the help.
