I found this on the consumer reports web site... just thought it kind of odd... is this a true accusation of Oil Companies and Lube Companies brain washing us into 3,000 miles or ..... Do you actually need to change your oil ever 3,000 miles.

I do regular driving dont race off the line.. but do have a heavy foot on the Highway....

I think the real important thing is changing the filter. I run mobil one and let my miles between changes go a bit longer depending on what kind of driving i am doing. Most owners manuals actually recommend 6000 mile intervals.

Yeah I was wondering about the same thing. Obviously the moreo ften oil is changed is better for the motor, but oil has evolved quite a bit honestly. Out of curiosity how often do you people change your oil. I change mine ~4k miles.

I'm currently doing 5,000 myself, with synthetic oil and premium filter.

If the oil filter was located in a better spot, then people could just change the filter more often and not the oil. Most people don't know that when you start your car/truck, your not filtering the oil for the first 5 mins or so.At least till the oil warms up to go thru the filter media. There is a spring valve on the top of the oil filter to by-pass when the pressure in the oil filter gets to be too much( most likely at startup and at very high RPM's ), so that you don't blow the media into your engine.

I do an oil change at every 5000 miles. I use Mobil1 and a premium filter. When i was usung conventional oil I did an oil change every 3000 miles. that was just my personnal preferance though.

Change mine every 3000 miles...mainly because I received 2 years free oil and filter change from my dealer....I have used only 1 year...another to go..will see how dependable I am after that
