1989 Dadge Ram 50 Bad Engine

1989 Dadge Ram 50 Bad Engine
Hi
I am new to Dodge's in general. My mother in law (MIL) has a 1989 Dodge Ram 50 (at least I thik that is the name of it). It has a Mitsubishi G54B engine in it. Apparently, the engine is dead (cracked block or head--she wasnt very specific). My questions are:
1)What options came with the truck? 2WD or 4WD?
2)If it came with 4WD, is there any difference between the engines? I have been trying to find an engine for it, but I have seen no mentions of this. My MIL says the mechanic told here that there are some differences and the 2WD will not bolt in right.
