Default Speedometer problem

Our 92 RT/TT speedometer quits at 40 to 45 mph. Is this a mechanical speedometer, or electronic? Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be. Thanks for your help in advance.

Default RE: Speedometer problem

I think on the TT models the speedo has an electrical sending unit. It is located on top of the trans, under the battery tray. It has probably went bad.
