Default Speedometer

We are experiencing a speedometer problem in our 92 Stealth R/T TT. It will go to 40mph and then stop and is eratic. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be and how to fix it. Thanks a lot. glad I found this sight. My wife's Stealth only has 42,000 miles on it and is constantly garaged. She wants to pass it on to our granddaughter, who is 12 right now. We keep it clean and polished, but sure need to get the speedometer issue fixed. The antenna also has a problem. It will not go up now when the radio is turned on. Help with this will be appreciated also.

Sounds like a nice low mileage example of a first gen. Those are getting few and far between.

On top of the transmission, under the battery tray is the speedometer sensor (it's electric, not mechanical). Chances are it is loose or dirty, but more likely than not it's just wore out. The antennae is probably worn out as well. Sometimes it's a loose connection, but most times the plastic cable (not sure what to call it) just wears out.

Thanks for the advice. I will look at it today. I guess if it is worn out a part will be available somewhere, but not sure where. I want the wife to sell it so it will be driven more by someone wo appreciates the car. She appreciates it, just does not drive it enough.

Maybe a chain auto parts store would have the speedometer sensor, if not, a stealership would. I recommend using Rockville Mitsubishi for dealer only items.
