Default not firing on cylinder 1 and 3

i just did a engine change from a 92 dohc to a 93 dohc.in the process i switched to the adjustable camsensor, i marked the old one and put in the 93 engine as it was in the 92.i have the engine in and now it is not firing on number 1 and 3 cylinders.i have spark ,and compression, and i smell gas on the plugs but not firing properly. all my timing marks are lined up rite as well. could adjusting the cam sensor fix the problem or do i have to set timing with a timing light to get it to perform properly?i left the cam and crank sensors on the timing belt side attached but not hooked up just in case i had to switch back.. if any one coould help it would be greatly appriciated .
