Default ECU questions-New-Used-Rebuilt?

Have read much about the ECU for certain years of the Stealth. My year,92,it seems there were many problems. I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with my engine. It still has a miss at all RPM ranges. I took the ECU out and looked at it and it looks brand new. The one cap had a small piece of "ash" beside it. They did not look like they were leaking. What I have read so far it says that doesn't make a difference, the ECU could still be faulty. They also say even if you replace the caps it could still be bad. So what should I do? Should I just buy a used one? I don't want to buy new because of the price. What problems should the car have if the ECU is not working 100%?

I have been chasing an idle hunting issue in my 91 Stealth ES and I believe that my ECM may be bad. I checked out ECMtogo.com as advised in another post who will repair the ECM for a quoted $225 + shipping. I checked Autozone for retail price an a rebuilt ECM was $209 + shipping. I decided to buy from autozone and should receive the part in the next couple of days. I'll let you know how it goes. By the way, alldatadiy.com was a great source for how to test components without replacing with new ones.
