Default Water leaking, engine running hot....

Hey, I just bought a 1991 Stealth from a guy for $1800. It has 125,000 miles and a great interior. While driving it home it started to run hot. I checked the coolant reserve and it was bone dry. A couple of hours later, after letting it cool down, I put water in it and drove it home. When I look at the driver's side of the engine I notice water leaking next to the belts and the gears. Would that be the water pump Doing this? This is my first Stealth, and the car didn't come with a manual, so i'm trying to figure out where all the parts are. Would it cost alot to get this replaced? Also, does this car have a timing chain or belt?

check your hoses first, make sure none of them are weathered, check your radiator make sure it's not broke, uhh.... check the rad cap, and have it pressure tested. after that, i would then start worring about water pumps. do the cheap/easy things first, narrow it down, and yes, it has a timing chain.

The water pump is on the drivers side of the engine. These engines have a timing belt, the belt runs the water pump. If you have to change the pump, it is a good idea to change the belt, pullies and tensioner while you are in there. It will cost between $500 and $1000 to replace, depending upon how much of the labor you are able to do yourself.
