Default Transaxle Lock.... Help!

I have a 1991 Dodge Stealth with a transaxle issue. It is an automatic transmission with the standard Front Wheel Drive. When it is hooked up to a diagnostic computer it displays the error transaxle lock. When driving the car it drives fine, but only in 3rd gear. Park, Neutral and Reverse are all fine. But when put in Drive, 2nd or Low gear it pulls away in third and stays in third. Just looking for any ideas I can try before looking for a new transmission or having it rebuilt. Please help!

I'd take the console inside the car apart and see if you see anything ajar, a loose cable assembly or anything, and tighten it if that's the case. Other than that, take it to a place that either specializes in transmission repair or take it to the dealership to have them look at the tranny.

Sounds like it is in the "limp mode." It could be an internal failure or a problem with the TCU (tranny control unit).

Same thing happened to my car and all I did was replaced the TCU and it was fixed right now.
