Default Problem with IAC

I had an old IAC that needed to be replaced. a buddy of mine had just bought a used engine from japan from a car there (less than 50,000 miles on it) and he gave me the IAC out of that engine. Put the IAC in my car, ran fine for a couple minutes, then when the car warmed up,it sputtered then it died. Now i just checked the resistance of the pins and they were all 39.8 or so except for pins 4 and 5. they were 4 ohms but 5 and 6 were still 39.8..... Is there something else with the car that can cause premature failure of the IAC or was it just a bad IAC when I got it. Can it be cleaned up on the inside to fix this problem, or is it shot?

I would say that it is more than likely bad. If one of the coils showed a low resistance, it will not work properly. It was probably bad from the start.

Short circuits in wiring or the ECM may cause the IAC to burn out.

I have no check engine light but is there a way i could tell if my car is shorting out the IAC. i don't want to buy the 200 dollar part , put it in and short it out... is there a way to test the voltage of the connector that connects to the IAC unit to see it one is bad or sumthing.. ANY suggestions are appreciated... also... i needed to put in a new engine temp sensor.. no one had one.. napa had a sensor for 91 thru 96 mitsubish.. same connector but it was a "LITTLE" different. screwed in ok, doesn't leak and car still runs but when i first put it in i got a light, disconnected the battery for a minute and then the light dissappeared and no more light... what was the deal with that..?
