does my stratus have a chance?
the other day i took my dodge to the garage and a few hours later.. they gave me this report:
Severe leaks ... notice it says "leaks" and not "a leak" (transmission fluid)
gear shift is rough/slow response.
in normal english i'm told that its leaking in 3 places.. the main leak is where the engine meets the transmission. and also there is a smell of burnt fluid.. and that there is a damn good chance that the gears have been damaged.
so i was given two options..
get a new tranny which will cost me about $2,600 (total cost)
or spend $900 to rebuild the tranny.. but no garuntees.
.............................
right now i'm a student in college and i'm already in debt (about 3,000)
1. should i just get it rebuilt, and then sell the car and buy another car (something more dependable)
2. save up money or somehow borrow money to get a new tranny.
i'm afraid that if i do spend all that money for a brand new tranny.. i don't know what other problems that car will have.
its a 1996 Stratus ES - 122,221 miles right now.
the last 3 dodges we had all died around 125,000 miles.
