97 Stratus stock stereo problem
Hi, i'm new here.
okay so here is what happened.
my problem with stereo started about two weeks ago when
sound started to get cut off from my stereo.
I would have my stereo on (it's radio/tape) and the speakers would
come on and off randomly. and now, there is no sound what so ever
even when I turn the stereo on (it turns on, everything is in working order, but no sound)
so my questions are.
1.what do you guy think the problem is?
2.how do I take the stereo out? it looks flushed with the surface of center console.
thanks in advance.

Are all 4 of the speakers cutting out? Sounds like a dirty connection issue or a short circuit in the audio section to me. Beyond that, if you don't get any more sound, the amp in the stereo may have breathed its last breath but I can't see that being the problem. The voulme control is an encoder (no min and max mechanical limitations - the **** just spins and spins if I remember correctly) so not likely that it has "dead" spots in the volume range.
The stereo is actually easy to get out. The bezel that surrounds the stereo and the heater controls pops off with the gentle prying all around the outsidewith a screwdriver. Then it's just 2 (or is it 4?) bolts that hold the stereo in. The stereo will pull right out after you remove the bolts. The antenna connector will probably come out before you slide the stereo all the way out so when you slide it back in, remember to hook it back up again.
