Is the Transmission Gone?!?
I was driving my 01 Stratus R/T w/ 138,000 down I-75 doing about 85mph. I got on the exit ramp to go home and the car just died on the exit I managed to pull it to the side but it would not say anything. It's like the whole car just died for no reason. I was not running funny or anything. So I got the car towed to my house and the tow driver suggested a new battery. So I went and got a new battery and put in. I crank the car up and it hesitated a few times but finally fired right up, but I heard a ticking or clicking noise coming from the engine. I listened under the hood and seem to be coming from the drives side engine compartment. After a closer inspection from under the car it seems to be coming from the transmission. So I got back in the car so I could drive it to a shop and low and behold it won't go into gear R or D. no matter what gear I put it in it will not engage. Any Ideas? Could this be a failed transmission? But it showed no signs of failure. And what is the explanation of the car dieing on the off ramp and killing the battery? I let the car sit overnight and tried it this morning. Same ticking clicking noise coming from the transmission side and it still won't go into gear... Any ideas..suggesstions?
