Keep as much of the pipe as you can at about 2 1/2" and I think that you'll get more of the deeper growl that your looking for rather than the "ricey" sound.

Just straight pipe with a tip, I've gone through so many mufflers it's not even funny, that's the best sounding way I've had so far.
