Hello all

I am new here stopping by to say hello and get some advice.

I have a 2005 Stratus SXT and whenever I turn on the A/C or defroster there is a clanking noise. I took it to a local mechanic and he said that the compressor is failing. He said it would take about$600 (labor/parts) to fix it. I looked online at various auto parts places and a new compressor runs about a grand and a remanufactured runs about $600. Basically what I am getting at is if anybody has had a problem like this what didyou do? Or could it be something else.
