1999 Stratus Axle replacement
Once you have it jacked and the tire is removed
-remove the axle nut.
-remove the nut from the lower ball joint and then strike the knuckle with a hammer to free the ball joint shank (hit on the side of it where the shank goes through).
-pull the knuckle away while pushinghte axle stub out of the hub.
-using a prybar or large screwdriver, pry the inner stub out of the transmission
-install the new axle. Put the nut on and give it a few decent whacks on the end to ensure it has seated.
-reverse removal process.
I can't remember if it is necessary to seperate the wishbone from the lower control arm, but you'll find out if the axle doesn't fit through it. It's a similar set-up to Honda's, and you do have to seperate them to get the axle out. I don't think there'll be any other components that need to be removed, but it's been a long time sinceI replaced one in a stratus. They don't fail very often.
BTW, if your Stratus is a coupe, it uses mcpherson struts and doesn't have a wishbone setup.
