Hey guys,

My 2001 stratus is making a humming noise when I turn the steering wheel to right (no matter what speed or how much i turn). The sound is almost like a period hum, coming from the front right side.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing that?

how amny miles? year/make/model?

 

mmm.... possibly power steering pump? are you low on fluid or something?


also, you say it's only when you turn the wheel to the right?

 

i also thought Ps pump...but that would be turning the wheel at all...its very odd..

 

it's got like 63000 miles on it. 2001 SE.

And yes, this sound comes only when turning to the right. Doesn't matter how far to right. The hum sound goes pretty fast too.

now, does it also hum when coming BACK from turning to the right? If that was the case I could see it being something rubbing somewhere, but as it is, that's very perplexing.

 

it sounds to me like some sort of power steering pump issue.

Could be a rack issue too. If there is a restriction in the rack, or maybe it's going bad.
