Default Fuel pump priming

OK, so my wife never pumps gas.. EVERY time I get in her car, I have to bee-line to the gas station to fill her tank.. ANYhow..

It finally happened: I ran out of gas, 100' from a gas station.. at least it was a quick push..

Question is, is there an easy way to prime the fuel pump if this ever happens again? I just unplugged the fuel line to the fuel rail and let it burp a few times with the key on 'run', but in the process I got gas everywhere.. the stuff squirts out at about 80 psi heh.. all down the front of me, engine bay, and exhaust.. just seems like there should be an easier and safer way to go about it.

Co-workers were telling me about a prime button/switch in some cars (Ford Escort I believe?).. I've never seen one myself, but does the Stratus have something like that?

BTW, car in question is an '00 Stratus SE 2.4L

Thanks in advance!

Default RE: Fuel pump priming

there is a shrader (spelling?) valve in the middle of the fuel rail, on top of the injectorsfor relieving pressure, it might work for air, as it's probably the highest point in the system. Maybe that would be easier than removing the fuel line? But no, i've neverfound a"prime" button. As i'm sure you know, the fuel pump will run for a few seconds and build pressureif youput the key in"run" (not "start").

ah yeah, likely would've been a bit easier, and less messy.. hopefully I never have to do this again, but thanks!
