Default Newbie with a stratus need help with belt

im a GM tech and this is the first dodge i have worked on. I do i realease the tension on a 95 stratus with a v6 in it so i can put an accesory belt on it. Its the belt that loops the crank comprssor alternator and idler together. I cant seem to realease the tension on it though

Default RE: Newbie with a stratus need help with belt

According to the service manual it varies between engines. I assume this is the 2.7L V6 engine since the 3.0 was not used until later models. The 2.7L engine used a tesnioner like you said, but has a 1/2 inch square drive hold into which a 1/2 inc drive extension connected to a ratchet can be insterted. To adjust the belt, loosen the tensioner braket boldt and intsert the extension into the square opening. Rotate the tensioner bolt to loosen the pully braket. Once its loose enough slip the belt off.

Good luck
