Default "Shifting" and CE light question

I have a 2001 Stratus R/T 3.0L with autostick. When the temperature is below 20 degrees outside (which is the most of the time once December hits here), it will not shift out of park until it has warmed up *at least* and hour. I always like to let my cars warm up...but an hour?!?[:'(] I have taken it three places (including the dealership) to have it looked at, but no one can seem to figure out what the deal is. One place unhooked a cable going from the brake to the shifter to see if that would fix it, but no dice. I was basically told to deal with it.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, were you able to find the solution?

Also, my "check engine" light came on, and I got the same run around. No one can figure out why. Does anyone know if there are occurances with bad sensors, etc., that would cause my CE light to come on, that mechanics might not be able to figure out?

Thanks!!!!

when you mean shift, you mean that even if you move the lever it will just sit there and look at you?

Sorry, I should have explained that better! The button on the side of the shifter will not budge. I am unable to depress it, to get the car out of park.

Sounds like a problem with the interlock??? Since you have to apply the brake to get it out of park.

One of the mechanics thought that, also. He tried unhooking the cable the runs from the brake to the gear shift, but no dice. Thanks, though!

Any other ideas?
