Default 2000 Dodge Stratus Spark Plug Location...

Hello,

I've been looking at the forums for a while and I see that the spark plugs may be difficult to get to...anyone know where I could find step-by-step instructions so I can do it myself? I don't have the money to have a mechanic do it...and I feel as if it is something I can do (as I have a long day to do it tomorrow...). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

I assume you have the V6. It's not a bad job if you have anorexic arms & hands. Access to fasteners sux. There are several on the back of the manifold for brackets on each end (right & left). The rear plugs are under the intake manifold, so you have to remove it. Take you time and stay organized. Use a digital camera instead of your memory. Mark stuff w/ white out, tape, etc. to keep plug wires correct.

Good luck.

Just a hint, leave the AIR tube on the intake when taking it out. Undo the tube from the EGR instead. The intake's soft aluminum makes it easy to rip the threads out with the bolts.

This is for the 2.5 Avenger but the Strat is pretty similar to get the plenum off

1) Remove 10 bolts up front...7 on the plenum itself
and 2 holding the ugly tube going across, and one to
the right that's holding this bracket. (GREEN)
2) Unplug and unclip all vacuum lines, electrical
lines, etc. There will be 7 in total...2 on the left,
one in the back middle, 3 in the back right, and one
right to the left of the throttle body on the right of
the plenum kinda tucked in the corner. (YELLOW)
3) On the back/top of the plenum, in the middle,
there's a bracket that holds the throttle cable by 2
bolts. Unbolt that. NOTE WHERE THE BRACKET IS
CONNECTED TO THE PLENUM!!!! SEE STEP 8 TO SEE WHY!!!!
(ORANGE)
4) Look behind the plenum, you will see 3 support
bolts, take em out...one on the left side, one in the
middle, and one on the right. They are quite a ways
down so they're kinda hard to get to. (RED)
5) Look down behind the plenum again inbetween the
left support bolt and the middle support bolt, there
will be a tube bolted into the back of the plenum
called the EGR tube. There are two bolts holding that,
so unbolt those. (BLUE)
6) Remove the throttle body by taking off the four
bolts at each corner of the throttle body. (PURPLE)
7) Carefully lift up the plenum. It should come right
off but do it slowly just in case something is still
attached.
8) Put it back together in reverse order. WHEN YOU GET
TO THE THROTTLE CABLE, PUT IT BACK ON EXACTLY HOW YOU
TOOK IT OFF!!!!! Otherwise your idle speed will be
messed up, causing the engine to rev up without you
pressing the accelerator or shutting off when you're
in idle!
