The fuel pump kept cutting out. Sometimes it just would not start, then I could beat on the tank with a rubber mallet and it would start up for a few days again.
I talked to a mechanic at the dealership and he said it was a fairly common problem with the wiring harness melting with cars that have over 100,000 miles on them.
Easy way to check is to drop the back of the tank and twist the wiring harness counter clockways until it clicks them it will just slide out of the top of the tank, inspect the harness then re install. You do not have to pull the pump to do this check.. Should take about 20 minutes with airtools to do this.

On my 1997 Stratus the fuel pump just stopped working out of nowhere. I got it replaced and not even a year later the new one stopped working too! I've had this one for about a year so it's due for another breakdown... why do I love my Stratus so much?
