I have a 2005 stratus and am experiencing some problems with shifting. Got a problem when I shift from 1st-2nd gear (it seems to "jerk" when it catches), and then when I'm on the highway doing 75 and try to accelerate and rpms get to about 4500 or so, it makes a "grinding" noise when I release the gas pedal.

Now, I'm planning a road trip in a couple of weeks, and need to find out what the problem is. Any ideas?

 

Have you checked fluid level ???

 

yeah, I already checked the tranny fluid level and it was good. What else do you think it could be?

when my auto trans changes from 1st to 2nd when I am getting on it, it will jerk but not so much like a ****ty trans... just like a perfect drop from 1st to 2nd rpm wise.. if i am driving at 75 mph my car will kick down into 3rd gear a lot of the time.. no grinding but will drop down into 3rd.. but it doesnt do it much anymore at all.. not sure I also had my tranny flushed about 3k miles ago..

 

Is it an standard or automatic? Might want to check the clutch. Sounds like it might be either a bad pressure plate or throw out bareing.
