Default Hold Odometer Button + Turn Key = ??

Hello,

I was messing around with my Stratus (2001 Coupe SE 4G64) and wanted to see if the 'check engine' feature worked (you know, turn key on, then off, then on then off, then on, count the engine light blinks) I was unable to get it to work, but then I remember reading that if you hold the odometer button, while turning the key, it will show you the codes in the odometer.

So, I decided to try it, and found what seemed to be an odd menu. When I let go of the odometer button, a '10' showed up. I decided to push the button a few more times to see if it did anything, and it started incrementing with each push, by one, (starting at one) and looped back at 20. I set it back to 10, and turned off the car.

Does anyone know what this is? I'm curious now. My primary guess would be a 'error code stack selector', where you can view the last 20 codes that were posted. Or maybe it's for configuring keyless entry (which I don't have), light dimming after engine off, etc? I didn't want to mess with it too much and risk breaking something (already broke my cruise control haha, oops)

Thanks for the info!

Wow, i'll have to try that on my 1st gen '00 v6, and see if it does it there too. I've never been able to get the key on/off thing to work myself.

Alright, let me know if it does the same thing (and if you are brave, try playing with it a little. I was a little afraid to break something (although I doubt they'd let you adjust anything *too* important via a menu that is that easily accessible))

I have no idea what the odometer button thing is, but i believe the first Check engine thing you did pertains more to the OBD1 systems.

Interestingly enough, the first generation (2000 es) does "something" with the odometer button. It performs a self check of the cluster. starts off with the software version (8.7 in my case), and then checks gauges, warning lights, odo-a/t display, etc. Nothing to change though.
