Gas Savers?
Alright, well I'm wanting to be a gas saver & start doing things that will help my gas gauge die on me. First things first, cold air intake... How much will it improve my mpg? Is it gonna be worth it. Next cat back. Any suggestions, will it be worth my while. I drive a Stratus SE.
ok, CAI and Catback will help a little. expect a realistic inprovement (1-5mpg). I got +2 simply by cutting out the front of the lower part of my airbox (i have a '00 ES-V6). Your best bet is to do the simple things, don't do hard acceleration, minimize use of the A/C, put your windows up on the highway, in general - slow down. The "slow down" is the biggest savings i've been able to get. dripping from 70 to 65 makes a +1 difference, and for me going from 55 to 45 (I commute mostly winding backroads for my dayjob, so i'm technically still over speedlimit ) saves me about 3mpg. But all the little changes do add up, took my strat from 20 to 25mpg.
You may also want to compare your mileage from different gas stations. I know here in Ne-PA, the quality varies widely. There is a couple stations that I can fill up at, and it won't last me through a Friday night (pizza delivery), but other stations it will last me the whole weekend, and into my regular work week. Find the stations that work best for your car. Paying a few cents more for high quality gas, could actually SAVE you some money.
A lot of stations here have listed that they use at most 15% ethanol. more ethanol = less mileage = generally more expensive gas.
Your mileage will vary
