Question 2000 ES V6 Security Key???

Ok here goes. I just had a spare key made for my car, as I only got 1 key when I bought it, and am going out of town for work. I really can't end up being locked out of my car.

So... I got the copy made, it let me in the car, and was able to start the car. After about 10 seconds, the car just died. I tried to start it again, and noticed that the red dot on the cluster was blinking. Put my origional key back in, car started right up.

Factory key is Grey, i've seen black keys. I don't know if this means anything.

So, I guess i'm asking... How do I bypass this key security??
My 92 Bonneville had a resistor chip on the key, that i was able to match with resistors from radioshack and putting them inline to the ignition (the sensor had died).
This seems to be some sort of RF (like the security tags in retail stores) responder.

Any help appreciated.

Yup, that's your immobilizer kicking in, your key has an 2-byte RFID chip in it. You'll either have to get a(nother) key made at a dealership, or get an immobilizer delete/bypass (both will run you about he same price...)

You can probably get an immobilizer bypass kit from a place that installs remote starters, as it's what they use to allow the car to start and run without the key.

If you're in a crunch and need it fast (i.e. business trip?) you can probably get a key made from any Dodge dealer around.

This is sort of what you need for the bypass if you want to go that route (random link I google'd.. no endorsement)

Excellent find. I did find others, and all seemed to "requires permanent key mount (into compact module)" which makes me wonder if i can't stick the key somewhere close enough to the transmitter and use the "spares" that I had made. I'll play with that when I get home and let everyone know how it goes.

Actually the one that I linked to also says "requires permanent key mount".. I hoped it didn't mean what I thought, but I believe it does..

This seems a little more like it, maybe..

Actually, I rarely lock my keys in. That was several years ago that I last did that. I don't take much stock in the key security. I've had cars in the past (my 92 bonneville, fathers 97 lesabre, sisters 02 z3) that the security on the key has given problems, and was rather costly to repair.
Frankly, there is no particular reason now that I care to have the key security in use, and was unaware that the car even had it until I decided to make a spare key before I left home for work. For what I paid for the car, I will just deal with the quirks, features, etc of it until it dies.

Thank you everyone else for the bypass products sudgested. That may be the route i'll go with if they prove to be durable.
