Default Starts then won't start

Last Friday we drove our stratus all day doing some running. It wasa rainy day. At night went up to the videoo store and went to start the car it wouldn't start. The next day we went to get the car. Tried to start it nothing, then while towing it we tried to start it and it started for like 2 seconds. After we got further down the road we tried to start it again and it started up, we drove it home. After getting home turned it off then it wouldn't start. The next day we did this, it was raining so no working on it. It starts when it wants. A few days ago I started it multiple times just to try to get an idea of what is wrong. I drove it like a mile down the road. I took it home went to go up to the store like a half an hour later and it wouldn't start. We are at a loss don't know what to do.

It would be beneficial to know what year/trim stratus you have. the 1st gen differs greatly from the 2g strats, and the 2g coupe vs. sedan there a lot of difference. I recommend putting this information in your profile so you don't have to worry about it each time you post.

When it won't start, does it make any unusual sounds, any extra lights on the dash? Does it sound like it wants to start, or does it just "click" when you turn the key. The more detail, the quicker we can help you

It's a 96 2.4. It turns over just won't start. We thought it was the crankshaft sensor. Last year during a tornadic storm we drove through a puddle/lake of water and the car died. So this time we thought it was that because it had been raining all day. Last time the sensor had to be blown out then the car ran but this time it just does this start not start thing. It just don't start, no lights just acts like there is either no fuel or no spark.
