Default 97 Stratus - how do I turn off "check engine" light??

Wondering how I can turn off my "check engine" light after I have apparently fixed the misfiring problem I had before. How do error codes get cleared from memory? Will disconnecting the battery for a while do it? Should it go out all by itself if things are running smoothly again? TIA.

the battery thing should do it, or you can have the dealer clear the codes.

Well, on the way home from work tonight, I noticed the check engine light turned off all by itself! I guess it waits a couple of days after a problem is fixed (and if the error code hasn't been cleared by the dealer) and if it continues running smoothly it'll just turn it off itself. I wasn't looking forward to disconnecting the battery anyway!

hmmm....

i had a ford bronco II (hey give me a break it was free) it was always on the guy told me it was some sort of sensor or something that would cost money to fix. so i just took appart the dash and clipped the wire to the thing so that it would not be on anymore. probably not wise to do but it was annoying. the right thing to do would be to take it in unless your mechanically inclined.
