Default Power Seat Problem

Have a 2000 Dodge Stratus with power driver seat only. The seat when you can get it to move goes very very slowly sometimes no even making it all the way forward or back before it seems to die. Also I noticed that when you attempt to move the seat back it actually goes crooked at the very start and then sometimes moves back and other times it doesn't. The one thing I have noticed while all this is happening is that the seat seems to adjusts up and down with no problem. I'm very puzzled by this and any and all help is greatly appreciated.

sounds like the fwd/rev motor is starting to go. also from the way it goes crooked, i would think that maybe there is a bent/warped rail. this could also have caused extra wear and tear on the seat motor. the vertical is a different motor on a different rail, and would not be affected. with a bent rail, i would think maybe the car was in an accident??

We've owned it for a year and a half before this started. I secured a seat cover to what might be the rails under the seat using plastic zip ties the week before.Could this be causing this problem? I can't believe they would be strong enough to cause this and like I said the motor seems to die at different times.

zip ties can be notoriously strong. also any extra resistance on the motor can have bad side affects. seat covers should actually be tied to themselves under the seat (most come with elastic straps and hooks). I would cut the ties and see if they were the problem.
