Auto tranny popping into neutral
OK wife's car again wheeee!!
it's a 2000 Stratus 2.4L auto..
she's telling me it pops into neutral when accellerating from a stop.. not a hard accel, just normal driving..
the gear indicator stays on 'D' but it acts like it's in neutral.. she has to pull the shifter back into '2' to get it to engage.. Fluid level's fine, not sure about the service interval as far as the filter/fluid swap, but it's likely on the OEM filter.. about 80K miles
could it be a linkage issue? I know she got hit in the front a year or so ago, and the body shop missed a broken motor mount. with the motor hopping around maybe the linkage got buggered up? is it cable linkage? electric?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

I'd check the motor tranny mounts again first , when she's accelerating a loose motor mount may cause/allow the motor trany to move the linkage enough to go into neutral ...
With foot firmly on brake and engine in gear step on gas and watch the motor for excessive movement

I've never seen a motor move enought o knock the tranny out of gear. The cable bolts down on top of the trans so it going to move with it. If you are putting this thing into drive and it wont move, it has problems in the trans. Something is broke or stripped. Hope this helps.
