Default Reverse lamps stay on

Wierd thing, tonight my car wouldnt start... then after jumping it I noticed the revers lights were on even though I was in neutral. So, I put it in every gear and nothing changed. The recerse lamps stayed on.

Well, I thought maybe they were staying on when the car was off, thus draining the battery which caused it not to start. Well, not the case. With the car off, the reverse lights also turned off..

Well, I ended up finding the negative cable was loose and so I cleaned it really good and connected and tightened it. This makes sense. The dealer I bought the car from had put a new battery in and so I see how the cable may have not been tightened correctly...

Well, now the car starts fine, the battery is fine, BUT!!!

The reverse lights stay on! Wierd!!!

So, Ill check some fuses tomorrow, but any ideas? Im thinking maybe the reverse light wiring to the tranny is shorting, maybe damaged...

What a trip!

Oh is it like a switch that would mount to the tranny with a spring setup that puched towards the power contact when in reverse, and then when out of reverse the spring would puch it away from the contact? If so, would it be a switch that is visible and accessible by getting under the car?

thanx, Lance
