Default 99 stratus autostick shifting problem

My car ran low on tranny fluid after a cv joint change and is now stuck in 2nd gear but has park reverse and neutral. This happened before to me but i do not remember what i did to fix it. Please help.

park, neutral, R, 2 is the infamous limp home mode.

Your transmission will lock into 2nd gear (you can drive up to i think 25mph) without causing severe permanent damage. The transmission will do this if it detects ANY transmission fault. Common reasons are faulty transmission control modules, as well as just having not enough fluid, or the wrong type of fluid. Don't use off the shelf fluids. Your autostick REQUIRES atf+4, anything else will cause issues. I was able to find (at walmart of all places) a generic atf+4 that has worked well for me for about 20,000mi so far. They also have in a black bottle, the Mopar atf+4 fluid, which was a little more expensive.

top it off, and pull the battery to reset the computer, and see if it comes back. read the codes if it does, and find out where the fault is.
