96 Cirus w/remote start has elec woes (long)
Morning all.
Well, I spent the better part of three hours last night at my local dealership - part of my life I'll never get back nevermind the money I spent!!
Don't get me wrong, I have a great relationship with my local dealership (they're always happy to see me - gee I wonder why??)
Anyways, I have a '96 Cirus with 189k on it. When I bought it used last year I was happy to discover that it had a remote starter. Since this is a winter beater, you can well imagin that I was thrilled. Until it stopped working.
I had it repaired once only to have it quit again so my dh bought me a new one for Christmas. Had it installed in mid Jan. During the install, the company *claims* that they found a short in the electrical system that's blowing fuses and that they isolated it to one of the window motors, so they disconnected the windows in order to get the starter to work.
Since then, the starter has worked flawlessly, however, I have no freakin' windows!!
The dealership is telling me that the installation company must have tied into the window circuits in order for this problem to happen, the installation company is telling me that's a load of crap and they we're anywhere near that curcuit.
Has anyone else had a similar problem??
Right now, I have a couple of options -
1) no windows in the winter (leave the fuse out), summer put fuse in and disconnect remote start and risk accidentaly leaving the fuse in and trying the remote start and risking further, more costly damage to the computer.
2) pay for a manual sunroof! Fresh air!!
3) pay the dealership ooodles of money to dx the problem and attempt to fix it, although they've as much told me that their solution will be to remove the remote starter (guy felt guilty taking my money for the dx since he knows what a money pit this car has already been). The company that installed the remote start has pretty much washed their hands of me, saying it's not their problem (I've used this company for 3 previous vehicles/alarms (highend systems, too!) and referred others to them - not any more!!)
4) put a concrete block on the gas pedel and let it go off a cliff!
C'mon spring! I can't WAIT to get the PT out of storage!! This has been one hell of a long, cold, expensive winter!!
Cheers
