2003 dodge stratus 2.4L sxt...my check engine light came on 3 months ago for a P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction code.stayed on for about 1 week then suddenly it went out but now it just came back,can it be a glicth or what can it be

 

go to advanced auto parts they pull the code for free

 

I think it's the gas cap if I recall correctly. Just replaced one on my youngest boys '03 SXT Stratus 2.4. Fixed.

 

when it came on 3 months ago.i got a new cap and within a few days it went off,so its been off since,till it came back on a few days ago

 

just the slightest leak around the gas cap will trigger that sensor. i gave up with that one your best bet is to get a cheap computer and just reset it everytime instead of buying gas cap after gas cap
