Stratus limiting to 5200rpms

Stratus limiting to 5200rpms
06 sedan, 2.7 V6
My car is limiting itself to 5200rpms.
No CEL.
If i unhook the battery(reset ecu) it will work fine for a couple days, then outta the blue try to pull out in traffic and bam revs cut at 5200.
Mechanics are trying to say its mechanical, but this doesn't make sense to me seeings resetting the ecu makes it fine.
any help guys
