Default Replacing struts

Ok so I haven't replaced my struts on my car in over six years and they are still doing ok. Today I went to find out some prices on the cost to replace all four and at one place it was over a thousand dollars! They told me that the two front struts are two different ones but this is the first I have heard of this before can anyone lend any insight into this please, thx.

2002 sedan 2.4L SE Plus.

I've never heard of there being two different struts/shocks for the front or the back of a car.
I just upgraded my struts/shocks and the springs on a 02 stratus sedan v6 2.7L.
First time I've ever tried to do it myself and I saved a isht-ton of money. It really isn't that hard either, and I'm a pretty inexperienced mechanic.
Ebay has all those parts, at really cheap prices.
Auto parts stores will lend you the spring compressors for free.
lowered springs(4) were about $160.
Tighter shocks/struts were $200. I got the KYB GR-2's.
Hope that helps.
