Default burning smell coming from rear of the car?

I have an 01 dodge stratus, and am noticing after taking the car on the interstate, there is a burning rubber smell coming from the back passenger tire area. Any idea where this could be coming from? the tires are fine, and nothing visible is rubbing on them.

have you checked the brakes? A rubbing brake pad will produce a burning rubber smell.
Your mileage drop around the same time that you noticed this?

No haven't checked the brakes yet, doesn't really smell like brakes, but I will check it anyway. And now that I think of it, my milage has gotten worse. thanks for the suggestion, I'll get them checked and see if that's the problem.

If you have rear disc brakes, keep in mind that the e-brake is actually a drum built into the center of the disc. Could be the e-brake that's bound up. Pull the disc off and check...
