Default Noise coming from timing belt cover

hello and good evening.Well I have a 98 startus 2.4l and it seems there is noise coming from timing belt cover like a piece of belt is broken but I opened it up and belt looks fine does anyone have any suggestions what the noise is?thanks,bigpoppasalty31

Is the cover itself rattling around? If you have not yet changed your timing belt, now would be a great time to do so.

When the belt stretches, centrifigal force will make it slap against the cover. Was the ouside of the belt shiny when you looked at it?
As suggested, likely it's time to replace the belt.

IIRC, you can run the motor w/o the cover and see the belt in motion. [:-]

my 2.4L 96 did that ..... i say did because I took cover off and threww into trash

I bet that stopped the noise. Did you replace the belt? Install a new cover?
