Sounds like your o2 sensors are shot (specifically the bank 1 sensor, I would replace them all if possible if you have high mileage). They are reading that the engine is running lean, so it will pump more gas in to compensate. How many miles you have on that?

142k miles doubt the o2 sensors have ever been replaced. sometimes the engine light goes off for 10 miles or so not often though. and the sensors are pricey

Gas is also pricy, another car payment is too, as is other repairs (such as the catalytic converter) that can be damaged by running a very rich fuel mixture. It's a simple fix that can breath new life and many more miles out of what you got already.

Swap the o2 sensors and see if the error moves, and you'll know which one needs to be replaced

I replaced the o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 downstream by the manifold had the square connector.. I left the positive battery terminal unhooked while doing so to reset the computer. After driveing 50 miles or so the system running lean bank 1 sensor 1 light came back on. I am at a total clueless loss. the wiring all looked good the connector went to as well.
