I recently posted about the cel being on. Today I drove the car about 30 miles, runs good, doesn't use oil or run hot but when I parked it I smelled gas. I remembered hearing something about the gas cap, started to remove it and you could hear loud pressure (and some gas)escaping. It is still hissing slightly. I am going to wait awhile and finish taking the gas cap off. What does this mean? Would it have eventually exploded while driving down the highway???

 

have your EVAP system checked. im 100% positive that its this. if they get clogged or the valve stops working they will cause excessive pressure like this and cause the hissing you are talking about when you open the gas cap. no it wont cause it to explode.

 

Took the locking gas cap off and put the original cap back on and have had no further problems.
