bad coil, had to replace distributor
well first of all, hello all!!
newb with '95 strat v6.
i've had this car for about 5 years. great car, especially for cruisin with 5 people in.
114K miles on it, so i decided to give it a tune up. whoever decided to put the rear 3 plugs under the manifold should be shot!! well i guess it wasn't that bad, just really tight spaces to work ya know?
so i replaced plugs/wires (easier if u take off the cap, btw) then drove it around, and i was almost home when the car died. i got a ride home and got my jack, went back and found that one of the wires on the rear of the distributor had popped off. (i put them on from under the car, instead of taking off the cap, so thats probably why.) so now it turns over but wont start. i replaced rotor and cap, and tested the wires for spark. no spark. tested the coil: no resistance. so i had to bite the bullet and go buy a new distributor. if no one has done this, the coil is inside the dist. and according to the 'all knowing' chiltons, u have to replace the whole damn thing.
i bought 1 today and i'll put it in tomorrow. hopefully this will get the car runnin again.
has anyone else had to do this? u can take the dist. apart, but i would probably screw sumthin up tryin to replace the coil.
i'll post tomorrow to let u guys (for those who even care...[sm=smiley29.gif] ) know if it works.

god i hate working on this car. there just isn't enough room to do anything.
i managed to install it though, and now it works. hopefully it'll last another 100K. . .
