Starting problem, 01 SE 2.7, please help!
Hey everyone, new to the forum, trying to help a friend currently on bed rest to deliver a premature baby anyday now.
The chassis has power, but once the ignition the ignition switch and turned to "start" everything goes out and not even a click to the solenoid. Here's what's been done so far:
-Tried jump start
-Removed starter and had tested
-Replaced neutral safety switch
-Check fusible link for PCM
I did find one more started relay on the panel under the hood. What are the chances? The auto parts store kept the battery overnight to trickle charge it and retest it. I will take my chance on that relay at that time.
Any other thoughts? You guys are the experts. I use to work on cars for a living and this one has me stumped.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Check the battery cables. They may not be able to carry the load of the starter.
Nothing drawers as much current from a battery than the starter. A cable my look ok, but opens (usually at the connector) under heavy load.

exactly what I was thinking. OP I actually have a friend that had about the same problem. It was his battery cables that were shot.
Had a similar problem on my gf's 99 --power okay, but would blow the fuse for the starter. (Her battery and alternator were new.) Tried all the Haynes troubleshooting without luck. Finally pulled the starter and took it to my alternator guy who took it apart. The contacts in the solenoid had worn down such that --apparently-- too much juice through the system and boom went the fuse. He replaced the contacts in the solenoid and haven't had the problem since.
